Description
The Behringer X AIR XR18 is an 18-input, 12-bus digital mixer in a rack-mountable stage box — a Behringer XR18 rental that puts a full console’s worth of processing on a tablet instead of a work surface. Sixteen Midas-designed programmable mic preamps feed channel strips with low-cut, four-band parametric EQ, gate and compressor, plus four true-stereo effects engines carried over from the X32 and 31-band graphic EQ on the main and aux buses.
Control runs over the built-in tri-mode Wi-Fi router or a wired Ethernet connection, from free apps for iPad, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux — so front of house is wherever you are standing, and performers can dial their own monitor mixes from their own devices. The 18 × 18 bidirectional USB interface records every input while the show runs. It is a practical fit for bands, conferences, corporate AV and multitrack live capture around Williams Lake.

Behringer XR18 Rental Tips
The onboard Wi-Fi router is convenient and works well in a quiet room, but a crowded 2.4 GHz band — a full bar, a trade floor, a hall with its own guest network — will make it fight for air. In those rooms, run a Cat5 cable to the Ethernet port, or bring your own router and put the XR18 in client mode. Either way, sort the link out at load-in rather than at soundcheck.
Every channel name, gain, EQ, gate, compressor, bus assignment and FX setting stores in a scene you can recall in seconds. Build the scene during setup, save it, and save a second copy after soundcheck. If something gets knocked sideways mid-show, or the app drops and reconnects, recall puts you straight back where you were.
The 18 × 18 USB interface sends all 18 inputs to a laptop at 24-bit / 48 kHz at the same time as it mixes the room. Plug in a laptop with your DAW armed and you leave with a multitrack of the night, which is worth far more later than a stereo board mix. Bring a drive with room on it and test-record one song.
For panels, AGMs and press conferences with several open mics, switch on X AIR gain sharing. It rides the level of every selected microphone in real time instead of gating them, which cuts the comb filtering and feedback you get from mics sitting close together. Set it once and leave the moderator’s channel with priority.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are there physical faders on the mixer?
No — the XR18 is a stage box with no work surface, and all mixing happens in the app. Bring an iPad, an Android tablet, or a laptop running X AIR EDIT. If you prefer hands on faders, the MIDI In/Out port takes an external control surface such as a Behringer X-TOUCH.
What do I need to bring with the mixer?
A tablet or laptop for control, your XLR cables, and stands for whatever you are miking. The Behringer XR18 rental comes with the mixer and its power supply. Cables, stands, microphones and DI boxes are all in our rental inventory and can go out on the same booking — tell us your input list and we will put the package together.
Can I record the performance straight to a computer?
Yes. The USB port is a class-compliant 18-in / 18-out interface at 24-bit / 48 kHz, so every input arrives in your DAW as its own track while the console runs the room. macOS and iOS need no driver; Windows uses Behringer’s free ASIO driver, which is worth installing and testing before the day of the show.
How many monitor mixes can I send?
Six aux sends on XLR, plus the ULTRANET output for P16-M personal mixers over a single Cat5 run. Performers with the app on their own phone or tablet can be bound to one aux bus, so they adjust their own mix without touching anything else in the console.
Does it fit in a rack case?
Yes — it is designed as a rack-mountable stage box and ships with mounting hardware, taking a shallow rack space. At 3.2 kg it also travels perfectly well loose in a padded bag if you are not racking it.
