Canon’s official EF-to-RF drop-in filter adapter with built-in variable ND (ND3–ND500 / 1.5–9 stops). One universal filter covers every EF lens diameter. Full electronic communication — AF, IS, and EXIF fully preserved. Essential for EOS R video shooters maintaining the 180° shutter rule outdoors.
Description
The Canon EF-EOS R Drop-in Filter Mount Adapter with Variable ND is the ultimate tool for Canon EOS R video shooters using EF glass. It does two jobs at once — adapting any EF or EF-S lens to an EOS R body with full electronic communication, while giving you a built-in drop-in variable ND filter (ND3–ND500) that works universally across every lens diameter.
No more stacking filters on individual lenses. One adapter, one dial, every EF lens you own — from 1.5 to 9 stops of light reduction, adjusted in seconds. For video work where the 180° shutter rule demands exposure control in changing light, this adapter is a genuine game-changer.

VND Adapter Rental Tips
The drop-in filter sits inside the adapter, not on the lens — so one VND covers every EF lens you use regardless of filter thread size. Switch from a 24mm to a 70-200mm without swapping filters. For a multi-lens shoot, this alone justifies the rental.
For cinematic video, your shutter speed should be double your frame rate (1/50 at 25fps, 1/60 at 30fps). In bright outdoor conditions this forces a very closed aperture. The VND lets you maintain wide aperture and correct shutter speed simultaneously — no compromises.
Like all variable NDs, pushing past ND400 can introduce a dark X-shaped cross pattern across the frame. Stay within the ND3–ND400 range for clean results. For most outdoor video work ND8–ND64 is all you need.
If you’re shooting mixed photo and video on the same day, consider renting both this adapter and the standard EF-EOS R. Swap to the standard adapter for stills where you don’t need ND, and switch to this one when rolling video outdoors.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does autofocus still work with the VND in place?
Yes — the VND filter is inside the adapter and doesn’t affect the electronic connection. Full AF, image stabilization, and EXIF data all work exactly as normal. The filter only affects exposure, not lens communication.
Can I remove the VND and use it as a standard adapter?
Yes — the VND filter slides out of the drop-in slot and the adapter includes a clear filter holder as a replacement. Without any ND, it functions identically to the standard EF-EOS R adapter with no light loss.
Will it cause colour shift?
At moderate settings (up to about ND64) colour rendition is excellent. At higher ND values there can be a slight warm or cool shift — easily corrected with white balance or in post. Canon’s drop-in filter is among the best-quality variable NDs available, with minimal colour cast at typical shooting settings.
Does this work with EF-S lenses?
Yes, same as the standard adapter. EF-S lenses will mount and function, but the EOS R body will automatically switch to crop mode to prevent vignetting on the full-frame sensor.
