Description
The DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 is a gamepad-style wireless controller purpose-built for DJI’s FPV drone ecosystem. With dual analog sticks, ergonomic shoulder triggers, and a physical mode-switching button, it provides intuitive FPV flight control modeled on the feel of a game controller — dramatically lowering the learning curve compared to traditional RC transmitters with their tall sticks and pivot bases. Pair it with the DJI FPV Goggles V2 (also available to rent from Gear Locker) for a complete first-person flying setup.
The RC 3 connects over DJI’s O3 or O4 video transmission link and supports full Manual (M), Sport (S), and Normal (N) flight modes with a dedicated physical mode switch. Pilots familiar with video game controllers can transition quickly — Normal mode handles stabilisation automatically, while Sport and Manual modes unlock progressively more flight authority for experienced pilots. Compatible with DJI Avata 360, Neo 2, Neo, Avata 2, O4 Air Unit Pro, O4 Air Unit, and O3 Air Unit.

FPV Controller Rental Tips
New to FPV? Start every session in Normal (N) mode. The drone holds attitude automatically, GPS-assisted hover is active, and the sticks are least sensitive. Normal mode is the equivalent of a standard DJI flight mode — forgiving and predictable. Only switch to Sport or Manual once you are comfortable and flying in an appropriate open area.
Manual (M) mode disables all attitude stabilisation — the drone goes exactly where the sticks point, including flipping inverted. This mode is for experienced FPV freestyle pilots only. Flying Manual without sufficient simulator practice almost always results in a crash. If you are renting the RC 3 for casual or event use, stay in Normal or Sport.
Flying an FPV drone with goggles requires a spotter — a second person watching the aircraft at all times while you fly via goggles. This is a Transport Canada requirement for recreational FPV flight. Flying alone in FPV goggles is not permitted. Check RPAS rules and obtain required registration and certification before flying any DJI FPV product outdoors.
The RC 3 is designed to pair with DJI’s FPV goggles for the full immersive FPV experience. The DJI FPV Goggles V2 are also available to rent from Gear Locker. Renting both together gives you the complete DJI FPV system — goggles for first-person view and the RC 3 for gamepad-style control. Contact us to book both.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What drone do I need to use the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3?
The RC 3 is compatible with: DJI Avata 360, DJI Neo 2, DJI Neo, DJI Avata 2, DJI O4 Air Unit Pro, DJI O4 Air Unit, and DJI O3 Air Unit. It is not compatible with DJI Mini, Air, or Mavic series drones, or any non-DJI FPV aircraft. Match the controller to a compatible DJI FPV drone before your rental period.
Does the DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 work with DJI FPV Goggles V2?
Yes — the FPV Goggles V2 are in the compatible ecosystem for the RC 3 when paired with a compatible DJI aircraft (such as DJI Avata). The goggles receive the video feed while the RC 3 sends flight controls. Both the FPV Goggles V2 and RC 3 are available for rent at Gear Locker.
Is this easier to fly than a traditional RC transmitter?
For most people, yes — especially those with video game experience. The gamepad layout (thumbsticks, triggers, shoulder buttons) is immediately familiar. Traditional RC transmitters use centre-sprung sticks on a tall-stick layout which requires new muscle memory. The RC 3 in Normal mode is one of the most approachable ways to get into FPV flying.
Do I need a pilot licence to fly with this controller?
Canadian drone regulations (Transport Canada RPAS) require that aircraft under 250g (Micro category) can be flown without a licence for basic operations, while 250g–25kg drones require a Recreational Pilot Certificate (Basic or Advanced) depending on the airspace. The DJI Avata 2 is above 250g. Check Transport Canada’s drone requirements and your specific aircraft’s weight before flying.
