K&F Concept Nikon AI/F to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter

SKU kf-ai-sony-e

Price range: $5 through $67

Fully mechanical adapter that mounts Nikon AI, AI-S and F-mount lenses on any Sony E-mount body. No glass in the path, so your lens keeps its native sharpness and infinity focus.

Description

The K&F Concept Nikon AI/F to Sony E-Mount Lens Adapter is a fully mechanical Nikon to Sony adapter that mounts Nikon AI, AI-S and F-mount lenses onto any Sony E-mount body — the full-frame a7, a7R and a7S series, the APS-C a6000 line, FX3 and FX6 cinema bodies, ZV-E1 and ZV-E10, and the original NEX cameras. The machined aluminium barrel carries a matte anti-reflective varnish on the inside to keep stray light off the sensor, and the flange distance is cut to reach infinity focus.

There are no electronic contacts, so focus and aperture are set by hand on the lens itself. That suits the glass this adapter is usually paired with: older Nikkor primes, fast manual telephotos, and AI-S zooms that still hold up optically. Bring a lens with a physical aperture ring — this is the AI version of the K&F Nikon to Sony adapter, so Nikon G lenses without a ring will sit at their minimum aperture.

Nikon to Sony Adapter Rental Tips

01
Turn On “Release w/o Lens” First

A Sony body will not fire the shutter with a lens it cannot detect until you allow it. Go to Menu › Setup › Release w/o Lens and set it to Enable. The exact wording moves around between models, but it is in the Setup menu on every E-mount camera. Do this before you leave the counter and you will not be troubleshooting a dead shutter button on location.

02
Bring a Lens With an Aperture Ring

This is the AI version of the adapter, so aperture is controlled entirely by the ring on the lens. Nikon AI, AI-S and pre-G AF Nikkors all have one. Nikon G lenses do not — mounted on this adapter they stay at their smallest aperture, which leaves the viewfinder very dark. If your glass is all G-series, let us know when you book and we will talk through the options.

03
Use Focus Peaking and Magnified View

With no data coming from the lens, the camera cannot confirm focus for you. Turn on Focus Peaking (Menu › Focus Assist) for a coloured outline on sharp edges, and map Magnified View to a custom button for critical work. For handheld shooting, enter your lens’ focal length under Steady Shot settings so in-body stabilisation applies the right correction.

04
Account for the Crop Factor

On a full-frame Sony the Nikon lens keeps its marked focal length. On an APS-C body the 1.5× crop narrows the field of view — a 50mm frames like a 75mm, an 85mm like a 128mm. That works in your favour with telephotos and against you with wides, so plan which bodies you are pairing before you pack.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will autofocus work through this adapter?

No. This is a passive mechanical adapter with no electronics, so autofocus, electronic aperture control and EXIF aperture data are all unavailable. Focus and aperture are set by hand. If you need autofocus with Nikon F glass on an E-mount body, that calls for a powered adapter rather than this one — ask us and we will tell you what is in stock.

Will my Nikon G lens work on it?

Not usefully. G-series Nikkors have no aperture ring, so on this AI-mount adapter they default to their minimum aperture and the image goes very dark. K&F makes a separate AI(G) version with a built-in aperture control lever for those lenses. Check your lens barrel for an aperture ring before booking.

Does infinity focus still work?

Yes. The adapter is machined to the correct flange distance so Nikon lenses reach infinity on a Sony body. On long telephotos the infinity mark can sit slightly past the hard stop, which is normal — confirm focus through the viewfinder rather than trusting the barrel marking.

Does in-body stabilisation still work?

It does, but the camera cannot read the focal length from an unpowered lens. Enter it manually under Menu › Steady Shot Settings › Steady Shot Focal Length so the correction matches the lens you have mounted. This is standard practice for any manual lens on a Sony body.

Does the rental include a lens?

No — the Nikon to Sony adapter rents on its own. Bring your own Nikon F-mount glass, or pair it with a lens from our rental inventory. If you are not sure whether your lens and body combination will work, send us the models and we will check before you book.
