Description
The Kondor Blue 22″ 12G-SDI Cable (Straight to Right-Angle) is a precision-built short-run SDI cable for on-camera use. The right-angle BNC connector sits flush against the camera body, keeping the cable profile low and reducing stress on the SDI port — critical when the cable is attached to a handheld rig or gimbal where a protruding straight connector would catch and lever. At 22 inches, it’s designed for the short run from camera to an on-board monitor, recorder, or video transmitter without the excess cable of a standard 3-foot run.
12G-SDI carries a single coaxial cable capable of transporting 4K 60p and 8K 30p video signals — the same connector used for HD-SDI and 3G-SDI, now at 12 Gbps bandwidth. This is the standard SDI cable rental connection between professional video cameras (Sony FX3, FX6, BMPCC, RED, ARRI) and external monitors (SmallHD, Atomos), recorders (Atomos Shogun, Blackmagic Video Assist), and wireless transmitters (Teradek, Hollyland). The distinctive blue braided nylon jacket is colour-coded to match Kondor Blue’s cable system, making cable identification fast on a busy set.

SDI Cable Rental Tips
Install the right-angle BNC connector at the camera’s SDI port. This keeps the connector flat against the camera body, reducing the leverage arm that a protruding straight connector would create — important on handheld setups, gimbals, and shoulder rigs where cable pull is a constant force. The straight end goes to the monitor, recorder, or transmitter.
Not all cameras with SDI output support 12G-SDI speeds. The cable is backward compatible with 3G-SDI and HD-SDI signals, but will only carry 4K 60p when both the source (camera) and destination (monitor/recorder) support 12G-SDI. Check your camera’s spec sheet for its SDI output specification before assuming 4K over SDI capability.
At 22 inches, this cable is designed for on-camera or cage-mount use where the monitor, recorder, or transmitter is physically attached to the camera rig. It is not long enough for even a modest distance from camera to a separate stand-mounted monitor. If you need a longer run, SDI is rated reliably to 100+ metres on quality coax — contact us if you need a longer cable for your setup.
BNC connectors secure with a quarter-turn bayonet lock — push in and turn clockwise to lock, turn counter-clockwise to release. Do not force a BNC connector or over-tighten. When locked, the connector is mechanically secure against accidental pull-out, unlike push-in HDMI connectors. Always unlock before removing to avoid damaging the connector or port.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is 12G-SDI and how is it different from 3G-SDI or HD-SDI?
SDI (Serial Digital Interface) standards differ in bandwidth. HD-SDI carries 1.5 Gbps (up to 1080i 60). 3G-SDI carries 3 Gbps (up to 1080p 60 or 4K with dual-link). 12G-SDI carries 12 Gbps — enough for 4K 60p or 8K 30p on a single cable. All three use the same BNC connector and coaxial cable construction; the difference is the signal bandwidth and the compatible equipment on each end.
Can I use this cable for HDMI output? Do I need an adapter?
No. SDI and HDMI are completely different electrical standards. SDI uses coaxial cable with BNC connectors; HDMI uses its own connector and signal protocol. You cannot use this cable for HDMI without a separate SDI-to-HDMI converter box (not included). If your camera only has HDMI output, you need an HDMI cable, not this SDI cable.
Which cameras use 12G-SDI output?
12G-SDI is found on professional-tier cinema cameras including: Sony FX6, FX9, VENICE series; Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro, Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (some models); ARRI ALEXA mini LF and other ARRI cinema cameras; Panasonic AU series; and RED cameras (via expansion modules). Entry-level cameras and consumer video cameras typically output HD-SDI (3G-SDI at most) if they have SDI at all.
Why blue? Does cable colour affect signal quality?
No — cable colour does not affect signal quality. Kondor Blue uses colour-coded cables to help on-set crews quickly identify cable types and runs — blue for 12G-SDI, other colours for other cable types. On a busy set with many cables routed together, colour coding reduces the time spent tracing cables and the risk of pulling the wrong one.
