Description

The Nikon ED AF Nikkor 80–200mm f/2.8 Push-Pull is the original single-ring version of Nikon’s legendary constant-aperture telephoto zoom — built almost entirely of metal to professional standards. At f/2.8 across the full range with 3 ED glass elements, it delivers razor-sharp images and beautiful background separation in any light. A cult favourite for portraits, events, and documentary. Note: autofocus requires a screw-drive motor in the camera body — works on D300, D500, D700, D750, D800/D810/D850, D3/D4/D5/D6 series and most pro/enthusiast bodies. Does not autofocus on D3000/D5000 series.

Telephoto Zoom Rental Tips

01
Use a Monopod for Stability

At 200mm even small vibrations show. A monopod keeps you mobile for sports and events while eliminating the worst handheld shake — pair it with a shutter speed of at least 1/focal length.

02
Push-Pull Zoom is Fast and Intuitive

The push-pull barrel lets you zoom and compose in one motion — faster than a twist zoom for tracking moving subjects. Practice the feel before your shoot day.

03
Stop Down for Sharper Groups

Wide open at f/2.8 the depth of field is narrow at telephoto. For group shots or deeper scenes, stop down to f/5.6 or f/8 to keep everyone in focus.

04
Pair with a Teleconverter Carefully

A 1.4x TC gives you 112-280mm at f/4, but autofocus may slow down. Test AF performance before relying on it for fast-action shooting.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which Nikon bodies autofocus with this lens?

Any body with a built-in screw-drive AF motor: D300/D300s, D500, D600/D610, D700, D750, D780, D800/D800E/D810/D810A/D850, D1–D6 series, D7000/D7100/D7200/D7500. Manual focus works on any F-mount body.

Can I use this on a Nikon Z mirrorless body?

Yes, with the Nikon FTZ or FTZ II adapter (not included — we stock the adapter separately). Autofocus works on all current Nikon Z bodies via the FTZ adapter.

Is there image stabilisation?

No — this lens has no VR. Consider pairing with a body that has in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), or rent our Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II if VR is essential.

What is the push-pull zoom?

Zoom and focus share one barrel. Sliding forward/backward changes the focal length (80–200mm). Rotating adjusts focus. One ring does both jobs.
