Description

The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art is one of the most acclaimed lenses ever made for crop-sensor cameras — the world’s first zoom lens to achieve a constant f/1.8 aperture throughout its entire zoom range. That single achievement makes it a genuinely unique tool: the versatility of a zoom with the low-light performance of a fast prime.

On a Nikon DX body, this lens covers the equivalent of 27–52.5mm — from wide-angle to a natural portrait length — all at f/1.8. Whether you’re shooting weddings in dim reception halls, documentary work in available light, or video that demands cinematic depth of field, the Sigma Art 18-35 delivers optical performance that rivals dedicated prime lenses.

Zoom Lens Rental Tips

01
This is a DX / APS-C only lens

The Sigma 18-35 is designed for crop sensor bodies only. On a full-frame Nikon (D800, D750, D610, Df), it will produce heavy vignetting and partial coverage. It’s optimized for DX bodies like the D7500, D7200, D500, D5600, and D3500 — on those it’s exceptional.

02
Shoot wide open with confidence

Unlike most zoom lenses, the Sigma Art 18-35 is genuinely sharp at f/1.8 throughout the zoom range. No need to stop down to get acceptable results — wide open is where this lens shines, especially for available light and video work.

03
It’s heavy — plan for it

At 811g the Sigma 18-35 is a serious piece of glass. On a mid-size DX body it’s front-heavy. For handheld video work, pair it with a gimbal or shoulder rig. For stills, the extra weight pays off in rock-solid build quality and exceptional optics.

04
Perfect companion for event videography

The 18-35 f/1.8 has become the go-to for DX video shooters because the constant aperture means no exposure shifts when zooming. Run-and-gun wedding and event videographers get the look of a fast prime with the flexibility of a zoom in a single lens.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will this work on my full-frame Nikon?

It will mount and function, but it’s not designed for full-frame. On FX bodies like the D800, D810, D750 or Df you’ll get significant dark corner vignetting across the frame. This lens is optimized for DX crop sensor bodies — D3x00, D5x00, D7x00, and D500 series.

How is the autofocus performance?

The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) is fast and quiet for stills. For video AF it depends on the body — on bodies with contrast-detect live view AF it can hunt. For video it’s typically used with manual focus or a follow focus system. For still photography, AF is reliable and quick.

What’s the zoom range actually useful for?

On DX, 18mm gives you a wide 27mm-equivalent — great for environmental portraits, interiors, and wide establishing shots. At 35mm you’re at 52.5mm equivalent — natural perspective for portraits and general shooting. The range is compact but covers the most-used focal lengths in one lens.

Is there image stabilization?

No — the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 does not have optical stabilization. However, the f/1.8 aperture largely compensates by allowing much faster shutter speeds in low light than an f/2.8 or f/4 zoom. At typical shooting distances, good technique and the fast aperture make the lack of IS a non-issue.

Can I use AF fine-tune / micro-adjustment with this lens?

Yes — and it’s worth doing. At f/1.8 the depth of field is very shallow, so AF calibration makes a real difference. Use your camera’s AF fine-tune menu (available on D7x00, D500, D800 and above) or pair with the Sigma USB Dock for precise per-lens calibration.
