Description
The Slendor SH-2 Magnetic Stirrer Hot Plate is a compact laboratory-grade mixing station combining a magnetic stirrer and a ceramic hot plate in a single unit. It heats to 520°F (271°C) and stirs at speeds from 0 to 2000 RPM — covering everything from gentle dissolution work at room temperature to high-temperature mixing for chemistry, resin casting, food science, and materials prep. The digital thermometer probe lets you monitor sample temperature directly rather than relying on the hot plate surface reading, giving you accurate feedback for temperature-sensitive processes.
The rental includes the SH-2 unit, the digital thermometer, a PTFE-coated magnetic stirrer bar, and a support stand with clamp for the thermometer probe. Everything you need to run a controlled heating-and-stirring setup is in the kit.

Magnetic Stirrer Hot Plate Rental Tips
The surface temperature dial on the unit controls the hot plate element, not your sample temperature. For accurate results, always submerge the included digital thermometer probe into your liquid and read the actual sample temperature from the probe display — especially important for temperature-sensitive work.
The included PTFE stirrer bar is sized for standard beakers and flasks. For best results, the bar should be about a third the diameter of your vessel. If the bar wobbles or can’t catch the magnetic field, reduce the stir speed gradually until it locks in smoothly.
The ceramic plate retains heat for 15–20 minutes after you turn off the unit. Always allow the hot plate surface to cool fully before packing for return. The unit ships back in a clean, dry state — rinse and dry the stirrer bar after use.
The rental includes the stirrer/hot plate, digital thermometer, stirrer bar, and support stand. You will need to supply your own beaker, flask, or other vessel. A standard 250–1000 mL glass beaker works well with this unit.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is included in the rental kit?
The rental kit includes the Slendor SH-2 unit (stirrer + hot plate), a digital thermometer with probe, one PTFE-coated magnetic stirrer bar, and a support stand with clamp to hold the thermometer probe in your vessel. Glassware (beakers, flasks) is not included.
Can I use this for food preparation?
The SH-2 is a general-purpose lab stirrer. It is suitable for food science experiments, candy making, dairy work, and similar applications where controlled heating and mixing are needed. The PTFE stirrer bar is food-safe. Ensure your glassware and vessel are food-safe and rated for the temperatures you plan to use.
What is the maximum container size that will stir effectively?
The magnetic drive on the SH-2 works effectively with standard lab beakers up to approximately 1 litre for most liquids. Larger or wider vessels may experience reduced stirring effectiveness as the distance between the stirrer bar and the magnetic drive increases. A narrower, taller vessel generally stirs better than a wide, shallow one.
Can I use the hot plate without the stirrer running?
Yes. The heat and stir controls are independent. You can run the hot plate at any temperature with the stir speed set to zero, or stir at room temperature without activating the heater. Both functions operate separately.
Is this suitable for use with flammable solvents?
No. The SH-2 is a general lab stirrer and is not rated or certified for use with flammable or explosive solvents. For work with flammable liquids, a certified explosion-proof or intrinsically safe stirrer is required. Use only with aqueous solutions or non-flammable liquids.
