Professional autofocus calibration tool for DSLR and mirrorless cameras. Eliminates front and back focus errors with precise AF micro-adjustment. Folds flat, includes bubble level and tripod mount. Calibrate your entire lens kit in one session.
Description
The Datacolor SpyderLensCal is the go-to tool for autofocus micro-adjustment calibration — giving you a fast, repeatable way to eliminate front and back focus errors from your camera and lens combinations. If your images look soft despite good technique, a miscalibrated AF system is often the culprit.
Rent it for a day, calibrate every lens in your kit, and send it back. The whole process takes minutes per lens and the results are permanent — stored directly in your camera’s AF micro-adjustment settings for razor-sharp autofocus on every shot going forward.

SpyderLensCal Rental Tips
Set up the SpyderLensCal at the distance you typically shoot each lens. A portrait prime should be calibrated at portrait distance — not across the room. This gives you the most accurate real-world result.
Always calibrate at the lens’s widest aperture (e.g. f/1.4 or f/1.8). The shallower the depth of field, the more obvious any front or back focus errors will be — making your adjustments far more precise.
AF systems have shot-to-shot variation. Take 5–10 shots per setting and look for the consistent result, not just a single frame. Zoom in to 100% on your screen to accurately read the focus scale.
Each lens has its own AF behaviour. Most cameras can store individual calibration values per lens — use this feature. A single afternoon with the SpyderLensCal can tune your entire kit permanently.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does this work with mirrorless cameras?
It depends on the camera. The SpyderLensCal is designed for DSLRs with AF micro-adjustment menus. Some mirrorless bodies also support this feature — check your camera’s manual under AF settings. Phase-detect mirrorless systems with DSLR lenses via adapter are a common use case.
Will I need to redo calibration after renting?
No — calibration values are saved permanently in your camera body. Once set, the correction applies automatically every time that lens is attached. You only need to recalibrate if you get a new camera body or notice focus performance has changed over time.
Does it work with zoom lenses?
Yes, with a caveat. Most cameras store one AF correction value per zoom lens. Datacolor recommends calibrating at the longest focal length. If your zoom requires very different corrections at different focal lengths, a factory service may be a better solution than in-camera adjustment.
Do I need a tripod?
Yes — both the SpyderLensCal and your camera should be on stable supports for accurate results. The SpyderLensCal has a 1/4-20 tripod mount and a built-in bubble level. Even a small table-top tripod works fine for this process.
How long does calibration take?
Around 10–15 minutes per lens once you understand the process. A full kit of 5–6 lenses can be dialed in within a couple of hours. A 1-day rental is more than enough time to calibrate everything you own.
