Gimbal Stabilizer Rental Tips

01
Balance before you calibrate

Physical balance is the most important step — the motors compensate for small imbalances but work best when the camera is mechanically balanced first. Lock each axis individually (a key RS 2 feature), balance that axis, then unlock. Run Auto Tune via the M button + trigger after balancing for the smoothest result.

02
Use SuperSmooth for long lenses

SuperSmooth mode increases motor torque and compensates for micromovements — essential when shooting with lenses 50mm and longer. Enable it in the DJI Ronin app or directly from the touchscreen. Note that a lens support accessory is recommended for very heavy telephoto lenses to reduce torque stress on the tilt axis.

03
Connect the camera control cable

Multiple camera control cables are included for Sony, Canon, Nikon, and USB-C cameras. Connecting the correct cable lets you start/stop recording, adjust ISO, aperture, and shutter speed directly from the RS 2 trigger — eliminating the need to touch the camera body mid-shot. Worth setting up before you head out.

04
Walk heel-to-toe for smooth footage

Even the best gimbal can’t fully compensate for the vertical bounce of a normal walking gait. Walk heel-to-toe (rolling smoothly from heel through to toe) with slightly bent knees to minimise vertical movement. This single technique dramatically improves the quality of walking shots and is used by professional gimbal operators on every production.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will it support my camera and lens combination?

The RS 2 supports camera and lens combinations up to 4.5 kg. It’s compatible with most DSLR and mirrorless cameras from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Blackmagic, and others. For very heavy cinema cameras or large lenses approaching the weight limit, check DJI’s camera compatibility list at dji.com to confirm your specific setup.

What does the RavenEye transmitter do?

The RavenEye is a wireless image transmission system that connects to the gimbal via HDMI and broadcasts a 1080p feed up to 330ft (100m) to smartphones via Wi-Fi. This lets a director monitor the shot on their phone in real time while the operator moves freely. It also enables ActiveTrack 3.0 — subject tracking from the touchscreen without the app.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 12 hours from the included BG30 battery grip. The grip can be removed and charged independently via USB-C while the gimbal is in use, so you can hot-swap a charged grip without fully powering down. DJI recommends a 24W charger for fast charging — the grip supports PD and QC 2.0 and charges fully in about 1.5 hours.

Can I use it with a dual handle or sling?

Yes — the RSA/NATO ports on both sides of the RS 2 accept DJI’s own accessories as well as standard NATO rail accessories, including dual handles, sling grips, and extension arms. The standard RS 2 is designed for single-handed operation, but the NATO compatibility opens it up to more complex rigging configurations for demanding shots.
