Description
The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is one of the most celebrated wide-angle lenses ever made — a benchmark in ultra-wide full-frame optics that has defined landscape, architectural, and interior photography for over a decade. Edge-to-corner sharpness wide open at f/2.8, Nano Crystal coating, and legendary build quality make this the go-to ultra-wide for serious Nikon shooters.
Whether you’re shooting sweeping BC landscapes, real estate interiors, night skies with coma-free stars, or dramatic environmental portraits, the 14-24 delivers optical performance that simply cannot be matched by less expensive glass. One important note: this lens has a large bulbous front element with a fixed hood — it does not accept standard screw-on filters.

Wide Angle Lens Rental Tips
The bulbous front element means no standard filter threads. For ND or polarizer use, you’ll need a specialized rear gel filter slot or a large custom holder system. For landscape work at sunrise/sunset, plan exposures around the available light rather than relying on ND filters.
The Nikon 14-24 is legendary among astrophotographers for its minimal coma — stars in the corners render as sharp points rather than seagull shapes. Combined with f/2.8 and 14mm, it’s one of the best Milky Way lenses available for Nikon F-mount shooters.
At 14mm there is noticeable barrel distortion — objects near the frame edges will bend. For architecture and landscapes this is easily corrected in Lightroom. For wide group portraits, keep subjects away from the very edges of the frame or they’ll appear stretched.
The fixed hood offers decent protection but the large, curved front element is exposed. Be mindful in rain or dusty conditions — keep the lens cap on when not shooting. The front element is the most expensive part of this lens to repair.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does this work on DX crop sensor bodies?
Yes — unlike the Sigma 18-35, this is a full FX lens that also works perfectly on DX bodies. On DX you get a 21–36mm equivalent focal range. It’s an excellent ultra-wide on D7500, D500, and other DX bodies, though you won’t get the extreme wide end that makes this lens famous on full-frame.
Can I use filters with this lens?
Not with standard screw-on filters — the bulbous front element has no filter thread. There are third-party systems (like the Lee SW150 holder) designed for this lens but they’re bulky. Some photographers use thin rear gel filters cut to size. For most uses, this simply isn’t a lens you use with filters.
How sharp is it wide open?
Extremely. The 14-24 is one of the rare lenses that is genuinely sharp corner-to-corner at its widest aperture. Most wide-angle lenses soften significantly in the corners until stopped down to f/8 or smaller. This lens delivers exceptional results wide open — one of the reasons it’s remained an industry benchmark for over a decade.
Is this good for real estate photography?
Yes — the 14-24 is widely used for real estate and architecture. The 14mm end gives you maximum room coverage, and the optical quality means rooms look spacious and accurate rather than distorted. Combine with a tilt-shift lens for vertical correction if needed, or correct distortion in post using Lightroom’s profile corrections.
How does it compare to the Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8?
The newer Z-mount version adds filter threads (via a removable hood), slightly improved optics, and native Z-mount. This F-mount version remains optically excellent and is the right choice for any Nikon DSLR body. If you’re shooting a Z-series mirrorless, the FTZ adapter lets you use this lens but the Z-native version is the better option for those cameras.
