Rental Tips

01
Always Do a Sound Check First

Before rolling, record 30 seconds of test audio at your actual shooting position. Listen back on headphones to catch room noise, handling sounds, or gain issues before they ruin a take.

02
Set Gain Conservatively

Aim for peaks around -12dB to -6dB on your recorder or camera meters. Leaving headroom prevents clipping on loud moments — you can always boost quiet audio in post, but clipped audio is gone.

03
Use a Windscreen Outdoors

Even light breeze creates low-frequency rumble that overwhelms dialogue. Use the included windscreen or a deadcat for any outdoor recording, even if conditions seem calm.

04
Monitor with Headphones

Always plug in headphones while recording. You will catch problems — cable buzz, RF interference, clothing rustle — that the meters alone will not show you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What cable do I need?

Check the connector type in the specifications above. Most of our professional microphones use XLR — we rent XLR cables in various lengths if you need one.

Can I plug this into my camera?

Some cameras accept XLR directly, but most DSLRs and mirrorless cameras use a 3.5mm input. You may need an XLR-to-3.5mm adapter or a separate audio recorder for best results.

Does it need phantom power?

Condenser microphones require 48V phantom power from your mixer, recorder, or preamp. Dynamic microphones do not. Check the specifications above for the type.
