SKU tetherpro-usbc-31ft

Price range: $25 through $333

31ft active USB-C tether cable with dual TetherBoost amplifiers. Right-angle camera side. High-vis orange.

Description

The Tether Tools TetherPro 31′ USB-C Right Angle Cable (Orange) is a 31-foot active tether cable rental engineered for studios, commercial sets, and architectural shoots that need rock-solid camera-to-computer data over long distances. Two in-line TetherBoost circuits actively amplify the USB 3.2 Gen 1 signal so you get a stable 5 Gbps connection across the full 9.4-meter run — no dropouts, no flaky tethered captures.

The right-angle camera-side connector seats flush against your body, reducing strain on the USB-C port and keeping the cable out of your lens-swap workflow. Power delivery is intentionally disabled, which means this is the cable you want for Canon EOS R bodies, Fujifilm GFX, and any mirrorless camera where conflicting PD charging breaks the tether. The high-visibility orange jacket is impossible to miss on a busy set — crew won’t trip on it, and you won’t accidentally pack it in someone else’s case.

Tether Cable Rental Tips

01
Lock the Right Angle at the Camera

Plug the right-angle end into the camera and the straight end into your laptop. The 90-degree bend hugs the body, keeps the cable out of your grip, and dramatically reduces side-load strain on the USB-C port — the most common point of damage on tethered shoots.

02
Trip-Proof Every Run

A 31-foot cable across a studio floor is a liability. Anchor the cable to your tripod or cart with a JerkStopper or gaff tape so any yank is absorbed at the anchor — never at the connector. The orange jacket is bright for a reason: use it.

03
Match Software to Your Camera

Capture One handles tethering for almost every modern body and is what most commercial shooters use. Lightroom Classic works for Canon, Nikon, and many Sony models. Fujifilm GFX shoots tether through Capture One or X Acquire. Set your session folder before you start shooting.

04
Plug Direct — Skip the Hubs

Run the cable straight from camera to a USB-C port on your laptop. USB hubs and dongles introduce latency and dropouts that defeat the whole point of a boosted cable. If your laptop only has Thunderbolt, that’s fine — Thunderbolt ports accept USB-C cables natively.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will this work with my Canon R5, R6, R3, or R5 Mark II?

Yes. This cable is purpose-built for the Canon EOS R series — the disabled power delivery is exactly what those bodies need to maintain a stable tether. It also works with the 1D X Mark III, Fujifilm GFX 100/100S/100 II, Nikon Z series, Sony Alpha bodies with USB-C, and Hasselblad X1D / X2D.

Why is the cable orange?

Visibility. On a busy set with stands, modifiers, and crew moving around, a high-visibility orange cable is far less likely to be tripped over or accidentally kicked. It also makes it instantly identifiable as a tether line versus a power or sync cable.

Do I need the TetherBoost circuits, or is this just marketing?

Standard USB-C cables max out around 3 metres before the signal degrades. The two in-line TetherBoost amplifiers in this cable actively re-clock and re-drive the data signal, which is what makes a reliable 9.4-metre run possible at full 5 Gbps speed. Without them, a passive cable this long would drop frames or disconnect mid-shoot.

Can I extend it past 31 feet?

Yes. The cable is designed to chain with the Tether Tools TetherBoost Pro Core Controller extension, taking you out to 63 feet (19.2 m) total. Ask at booking if you need the extension and we can confirm availability.

Will it charge my camera while tethered?

No — and that is intentional. Power delivery is disabled because PD charging causes tether disconnects on Canon R series and Fujifilm GFX bodies. Use a wall adapter or dummy battery for power, and let this cable do its job: moving image data.

What software do I need to tether?

Capture One Pro is the studio standard and supports nearly every camera. Adobe Lightroom Classic handles Canon, Nikon, and most Sony bodies natively. Canon EOS Utility ships free with R-series cameras. Fujifilm shooters can also use X Acquire. All of them work with this cable.

Will this work with a USB-C MacBook Pro or Windows laptop?

Yes. Plug the straight end into any USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 port. Thunderbolt ports accept USB-C cables natively, so no adapter is needed. Avoid running it through a USB hub — go directly to the laptop port for the most stable connection.

How is the cable transported?

Coil it loosely in a figure-eight (over-under) coil — never wind it tight around your hand or elbow. Tight coiling damages the internal shielding and the TetherBoost ICs over time. We’ll show you the technique at pickup if you’re new to it.
