Speedlite Modifier Rental Tips
The closer the light source is to your subject relative to its size, the softer the light. With a 26″ octa, moving it within arm’s reach of your subject produces beautifully wrapped, shadow-free light. Back it off for more contrast and definition.
Swap in the deflector plate to eliminate the central hotspot and create beauty dish-style light — more contrasty and sculpting than with the diffusion panel alone. Great for fashion, editorial, and dramatic headshots that need a sharper edge.
Place the octa at roughly 45° to the side and slightly above eye level for Rembrandt or loop lighting. This is the most flattering single-light setup for most faces — creates a natural shadow that gives the image dimension without going dark or moody.
No radio triggers? No problem. The Speedlite insert positions your flash outside the box so it can fire via optical slave from your camera’s pop-up flash or a commander. Ideal for run-and-gun outdoor portraits where you want to travel light.

Does this include a speedlite?
No — the speedlite (flash unit) is not included. You’ll need to bring your own shoe-mount speedlite. The kit includes the Rapid Box Octa-S, Speedlite Switch insert, deflector plate, 8′ light stand, and carry case. If you need a speedlite, check our other rental listings.
Which flash brands are compatible?
The included Speedlite Switch insert is compatible with virtually all shoe-mount speedlites — Canon, Nikon, Sony, Godox, Yongnuo, and others. Note: Sony speedlites have a proprietary foot and may not fit securely. The Switch system also supports Bowens, Elinchrom, and other strobe mounts via separate inserts (not included).
How long does setup take?
Under two minutes from carry case to shooting. The umbrella-style opening means no rods or adapter rings to assemble. Extend the stand, pop open the octa, slide in the Switch insert, attach your speedlite, and you’re ready. Tear-down is equally fast.
Can I use it outdoors?
Yes, in calm conditions. The 26″ size is manageable outdoors but like any modifier it catches wind. Use sandbags or a heavy bag on the light stand base when shooting outside. In gusty conditions, consider switching to a shoot-through umbrella which is more wind-resistant.
What’s the difference between using it with and without the deflector plate?
Without the deflector plate, light passes directly through the diffusion panel for very soft, even, wrapping light — great for flattering portraits and beauty work. With the deflector plate installed, the direct hotspot is blocked and light bounces off the silver interior first, creating beauty dish-style output — more directional, contrasty, and sculpting. Two completely different looks from one modifier.
